Synopsis: Energy saving is currently one of the important issues for the community. The highlighted issue is related to the theft of electricity where this can increase the cost paid by the customers and also for safety consequences. Currently, detecting electricity theft has been traditionally addressed by physical methods in terms of tamper-evident seals by field personnel and by using balance meters. Therefore, new method is introduced in this project where by using the system the electricity theft can be detected instantly and the related alert message will be sent through short message service (SMS) to the owner including the monthly meter reading and the electricity rate. The project will be built using Arduino controller, GSM and current, voltage and infrared sensors and etc. This project can help to rectify the theft problems since electricity theft has a material impact on customers in terms of cost and safety. It is also meant to control the situation since the existing regulatory framework does not adequately encourage the supplier to be proactive in detecting theft. Thus, this project can be used to request views on the new proposed supply license for the obligations to strengthen the arrangements of tackling theft. Also, this could be used as the proposed role for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to tackle the theft issue since it is not the responsibility of the supplier. The entire system is useful for prevention of thefts and globally connected medium to portrait the meter reading to the customers effectively.
